That is why we are pleased that from today Google will be updating its algorithms so mobile-friendly websites will appear higher up the search rankings on mobile searches.
For most of our clients approximately 20% of searches are on mobile devices, a substantial amount. Many of their competitors do not have mobile-friendly websites, meaning our clients will see an increase in websites visitors.
The algorithms will take a few weeks to come into full effect and will only affect mobile searches, not searches on PCs, lap tops or tablets.
To see whether or not your website is mobile-friendly, all you need to do is to search for it on Google using a mobile and see if a \’mobile-friendly\’ tab appears at the start of the description. If it does, well done, if it doesn\’t, then unless you update your website you will risk losing customers.
Many people think that this algorithm update is long overdue and it has been expected for some time now. In 2013 Google released the first major algorithm update that targeted the core issues around a mobile-friendly site. However, as mobile website technology has come on this algorithm update will target the usability issues of mobile sites.
If you update your website as soon as possible then you may not experience much of a drop in rankings, as it is unlikely that the algorithm will reach the UK for a few weeks. However, if your rankings do drop before you have had an opportunity to update your website then you will have to wait a few days for Google to crawl all of your website and label it mobile-friendly before you climb back up the rankings.
